About the Project

The Gap Project in Broadstairs is a vibrant and innovative charity serving the local community in an area of deprivation, using the fantastic facilities of Queens Road Baptist Church.

Mission Statement

To deliver a community project which will promote and further the wellbeing and quality of life for people of all ages across Thanet. Our aim is to relieve poverty where possible, improve family relationships and advance educational opportunities for a wide range of people, particularly the disadvantaged and vulnerable in the Thanet community.

Ethos and Vision

The Gap Project is based in the community facilities at Queens Road Baptist Church, Broadstairs, and is easily accessible and widely used by people in Broadstairs and across Thanet. There is a local 'loop' bus service which stops directly outside. The Project facilitates groups, activities and individual support for people of all ages and backgrounds within a warm and welcoming environment.

Our ethos is very much a person centred approach, whereby every individual, whether a staff member, volunteer or service user, is encouraged to make steps forward to improve their quality of life and wellbeing. We aim to work holistically with individuals, providing a mentor if appropriate. The mentor can then work with people to develop appropriate aims and assist people towards self-development such as confidence building, improving basic skills, attending a specialised group, undertaking a volunteering or employment opportunity.

We have a large team of volunteers, without whom the organisation would be unable to offer the range of services, dedicated to help the neediest people in our local community. As at May 2022 there are over 150 volunteers and over 1000 people per week interfacing with the Project.

Our vision is to help build a community in which everyone is included and accepted, and can have the opportunity to live and work in dignity with hope for the future.
