Over the Christmas period, many of our groups celebrated in their own way. Wellbeing Café sang Christmas carols accompanied by ukulele music, desserts and a Secret Santa; WEB collaborated with Just Connect for a disco, Christmas buffet and games; Drop-in enjoyed a Christmas dinner and food parcels; Friday Club contributed towards the Samaritans Shoebox Appeal and enjoyed a Christmas dinner catered by the Gap Café; and families took part in a penguin-themed Family Café, a walkabout nativity and a Christingle service.
Throughout the festive season, the mood across the building was warm and jolly, with Christmas cheer filling every nook and cranny, from the Café to the auditorium. We would like to thank everyone who made this possible and the NHS for donating winter clothing for our homeless drop-in and the old curiosity shop for donating presents to distribute amongst families.
Our Volunteers Christmas Party on 11th December brought together over 70 volunteers from our Gap groups, QRBC, the Gap shop and the Gap café to eat, laugh, quiz, play games and sing Christmas songs. It was a joyful opportunity to say thank you to everyone who dedicates their time to supporting our community, and we’re already looking forward to the next one.
On the 19th November, we hosted Ramsgate Arts Primary School, Music4Wellbeing and Inspiration Collective for the Sing from the Heart concert, led by Charlie Hannah. A diverse, multigenerational group of over 300 people from across Kent came together to sing. The event also launched the new song Let There Be Music, written collaboratively by the groups. It was a wonderful event to host, with beautiful cakes decorated by WEB, our social group for adults with additional needs.
In the summer, the Gap Community Café became a social enterprise donating their profits to the Gap Project, similarly to Gap in the Market. Alongside this, the Café has been rebranded with new menus and a logo, visually bringing it into the wider Gap & QRBC family. Our new slogan ‘Good food. Good value. Bringing people together.’ reflects our ongoing commitment to affordable food and a welcoming community space.
On 15th October, Gap in the Market celebrated 10 years in business with a special event featuring music, refreshments, a raffle and a visit from the Mayor. In December, our much-loved shop manager, Louise Parker, handed over the reins to our fantastic new shop manager, Tony Budden. Tickets are now on sale for Gap in the Market’s Fashion Show, taking place on 30th January 2026.
WEB (Welcome EveryBody) is the Gap project’s social group for adults with physical and learning disabilities, encouraging community, socialising and learning skills. We meet on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month from 7.30-9pm and have a mixture of trips out such as bowling, or to the theatre and social nights in the church building with games and a variety of activities. The volunteers and attendees alike have built lasting friendships, if you would like to help or attend please get in touch!
