On 26th April, we hosted a Taco Quiz Night in partnership with Headway, raising an incredible £1,261!
The quiz was hosted by Jazz and featured a variety of fun rounds, including a Mexican-themed round, adverts, general knowledge, and more. It was fantastic to welcome so many new faces into The Gap for the first time. Events like this are a great opportunity to connect with our local community and share a little of what we do.
A special thank you goes to Olga for preparing the delicious tacos. They were a huge hit with everyone, and we're so grateful for the time, care and fantastic cooking she put into making the evening such a success.
As a small team, however, events like these rely heavily on extra support. We're looking for volunteers who would be happy to help with occasional fundraising events.
On 10th July, we hosted a Digital Help & Safety Awareness Day, funded by Kent Police. Throughout the day we covered a range of topics, including online scams, digital confidence, artificial intelligence (AI), and online banking. We also offered one-to-one digital support through a drop-in session.
Despite significant disruption to local bus services, more than 40 people from across Thanet attended between 10:30am and 4:00pm to access support. Thank you to everyone who came along and helped make the day such a success.
The children and young people at Queens Road Baptist Church have been working incredibly hard to raise money for The Gap Project through the Grow a Pound initiative. The challenge is simple: each child receives £1 and uses it to raise as much money as possible before donating the proceeds back to The Gap.
They've shown amazing creativity by baking cakes, growing and selling plants, making homemade lemonade and waffles, organising a sponsored walk, running a "Guess the Number of Sweets" competition, and selling their own unwanted items. Together, they have raised almost £1,000.
A huge thank you to everyone who has taken part and supported this initiative. Your generosity is making a real difference.
The coming months will bring several changes to our staff team.
At the end of June, our Operations Manager, Olga, stepped down from her role. At the end of August, our Mission Minister, Chris, will also be moving on, and in mid-September our Operations Assistant, Jo, will be returning to university.
While these changes won't affect the services we offer, you may notice some adjustments as our team adapts. We appreciate your patience during this transition. Our team is small, but we remain committed to serving our community and continuing to grow our work.
Singing4Wellbeing is a warm, inclusive and dementia-friendly group where participants can enjoy the proven benefits of music and singing in a supportive setting. No musical ability or experience is needed, just a love of music and being together. The session begins at 1.30pm with tea and coffee and time to socialise, followed by a lively hour of music led by music therapists Charlie and Jon. Spouses and carers are welcome to attend, making this a valuable opportunity for shared experiences, emotional connection and mutual support.
There's plenty happening over the coming weeks, and we'd love for you to be part of it! Whether you'd like to join us for a fun activity, bring the family along, or lend a helping hand as a volunteer, there's something for everyone. Check out our events page for more info!
We're currently trialling a new volunteer application process alongside Queens Road Baptist Church to make volunteering even easier.
At the moment, we're particularly looking for: Café volunteers, volunteers who can help at one-off events and people with practical skills or specialist experience .
Whether you're an enthusiastic photographer who could help refresh our website, someone who enjoys washing up, or simply have a few hours to spare, we'd love to hear from you.
Every volunteer makes a difference, and together we can continue supporting our community.
